Danny’s passion for motorsports was greatly influenced by his father,
Stephen Murphy. Stephen raced against well-known Alan McNish and Jason Plato to win the Junior British Karting Championship
in 1981.
Daniel started
Karting in Formula Cadets when he was 8 years old and in his very first year of racing entered the two qualifying rounds for
the Super one National Championships, Competing against many drivers who were in their last year of Cadet racing at 12 years
old, and who had been in the sport since the age of 8. Daniel showed great potential
by qualifying for the National Championships. The Championship Series consisted
of 6 race meetings throughout the year, at six different circuits within the United Kingdom. At the end of his first season he was seeded 12th in the country and the next time that he competed in
a full season of the National Championships he was seeded 8th.
Daniel has
also been a regular competitor at Three Sisters in Ashton in Makerfield, near Wigan and has shown excellent performance over the years that he has competed at this circuit. In his first full season at Three Sisters in 2003 he became MBKC Champion.
The following year, 2004, he stamped his authority yet again by winning the treble, Winter Series Champion, Gold
Cup Champion and MBKC Champion for the second year running.
In January
2005 Daniel moved up to the Formula Rotax Minimax class. In his first year in
this new class, with more power and size, Daniel secured the championship with three rounds to go and became MBKC Champion
for 3 years running.
In 2006 Daniel
started the season in Minimax for the Winter Series which consists of the first four rounds of the club championship and won
the Winter Series for 2006. At this point in the season Daniel decided to move
on to a faster class, and finished off the rest of the season in Junior Rotax Max. MBKC
had announced in conjunction with Motors TV and PSC Productions that they were
to organise an additional televised new series for 2006, consisting of 9 rounds and taking place on the Saturday prior to
the race day for the MBKC club championship. All 9 races in this series counting towards the new Championship. The Motors TV Ultimate Karting Challenge. Daniels main goal
for the remainder of the season was to try to win the new Championship, even though he would only have competed in 8 of the
9 rounds due to his change of class. The Motors TV Ultimate Karting Challenge
was designed specifically for television, giving the sport the much needed promotional exposure, and allowing competitors
the opportunity to raise sponsorship based on the regular and in depth television coverage the sport would gain from the series
every month throughout the series, which was scheduled to run from March until November.
Daniel entered
the Motors TV Series in the Junior Rotax class at round 2 in April. Although
at a huge disadvantage to his competitors, by starting the series one round down, Daniel again looked at it as an extra challenge. When Daniel started the series at round 2, he was 31st and after round 5 he is lying
5th, with only 25 points off the leader of the series. Coming into the final
round, we had everything to play for, it was very close. We finally secured 3rd
position, competing in only 8 rounds. It was a fantastic achievement.
In 2007 Daniel
competed in the full season of Junior Rotax Max at Three Sisters to successfully achieve the title once again, MBKC Champion
